New Manufacturing Apprenticeship Approved

The Department of Labor has approved a new manufacturing apprenticeship program developed by the Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Alliance. The program includes eight levels of apprenticeship competency and combines college coursework with on-the-job training.

The skills include:

Machining Safety Process
CNC Machine Preventive Maintenance
Process Planning
Computer Aided Design
Computer Aided Machining, Turning And Milling
Workholding Design And Qualification
CNC Machine Set-Up
Tool Selection / Special Tool Design
Machine Operation / Prove Program
Secondary Operations Process
Deburring / Finishing Process
Shop Floor Quality Process

Local community college courses will fulfill some of the requirements. Colleges involved include American River College, Consumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, Sacramento City College, Sierra College and Yuba College.

Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Offered in Sacramento

The Sacramento Valley Manufacturing Initiative (SVMI) is partnering with the Charles A. Jones (CAJ) Career and Education Center in Sacramento to offer a Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship program. The first session starts November 5 and is a 90 hour program held over five weeks. Seven sessions will run from January through September 2021. Currently they plan remote education followed with lab work when it is allowed.

Participants register with both CAJ and Cal Jobs, a process that can take 2-4 weeks. The cost is $500 and that is refunded by Cal Jobs in proportion with attendance. Look at the CAJ Catalog section about the pre-apprenticeship.
