Edu2Mfg appreciates Di Jin, Account Manager, Autodesk Education Experiences team, sharing these resources with advanced manufacturing teachers in Sacramento area colleges and high schools.
With COVID-19 closing schools, college and high school Career Technical Education instructors are seeking new ways to teach hands-on skills. Industry partners have quickly responded by making valuable on-line resources available. The CTE Coalition, a group of manufacturing industry leaders, have come through with a one-stop website linked to teaching tools. Through this resource, you’ll find teaching tools from:

Shop Talk, a video conference call facilitated by Edu2Mfg’s Steve Dicus, has become a beneficial resource during the pandemic. Suddenly, teachers have to find innovative ways to engage hands-on students remotely, without the benefit of the usual labs and classrooms.
As they learn new online teaching methods, the advanced manufacturing and CTE instructors are helping each other by sharing their methods and resources. The community of teachers has grown even stronger during the COVID-19 crisis. The group has steadily increased to 23 participants on the recent call.
During one Edu2Mfg Shop Talk, Dan Turner, Welding instructor, Yuba College, described how he is using Miller Electric ™ Open Book. In addition to welding, it provides material on safety, blue print reading, basic electricity, introduction to metal, measuring and more. Instructors can set up quizzes and track students’ results.
Turner also showed how he is using Kahoot.com as a way to use gamification to engage students. Instructables.com was another online tool mentioned in the discussion.
In addition, several call participants shared the challenges of students having chrome books and the need to access CAD and other programs in the cloud, and what they are doing to help students, such as using Tinkercad & AutoCAD®.
Join Shop Talk: The next Shop Talk will be on Tuesday, April 7 at 3:30 PM. Instructors interested in joining these Shop Talk calls or reviewing the recorded calls, please Click Here to request access and/or get on the list for future notifications.
The April issue of the Edu2Mfg newsletter focuses on the innovative ways instructors and industry partners in the Sacramento region, California and the nation are working together to continue educating our future workforce outside of the usual classrooms and labs. This is particularly challenging for hands-on advanced manufacturing courses and other Career Technical Education (CTE) classes.
Through video conference calls, called Shop Talk, teachers are sharing their experiences and methods. Industry representatives are retooling their offerings and making online simulations and tools freely available.
Makers and manufacturers are rising to the call to produce equipment needed by those in the health care field.
